With a more-than-century old school and an active PTO, we have a lot of great events for families to join. Here's a quick guide to the main events.

We regularly share information about upcoming events and opportunities on the website, social media, and in the monthly Dundee Dispatch.  If you have questions or ideas, please email us at DundeePTO@gmail.com

Popsicle Playdate: This is a chance for incoming kindergarteners and their families to meet on the playground, enjoy some popsicles, and make some friends before school starts. Note: teachers will not be in attendance.

Campus Clean-Ups: Our PTO hosts regular clean-ups to spruce up our school grounds.

Back to School Night: Come meet your child’s teacher and check out the classroom and school during this open house. The Dundee PTO provides free pizza to all who attend. There is also a booth where you can buy your Dundee Elementary shirts before school begins.

Dundee Day: During our neighborhood’s annual celebration held each August, Dundee Elementary’s 6th graders represent our school by marching in the parade. Our PTO also has a booth to sell t-shirts and other Dundee merchandise.

Dundee Direct: Dundee Elementary PTO’s annual direct-giving fundraiser is held each September. We don’t sell cookie dough or make the kids raise money via a run or walk. Instead, we just ask for direct donations to fund all the great things the PTO does throughout the year. For example, funds support special projects, grants for teachers and staff for classroom materials, and fun events to build community.

Walk to School Day: On this day, families are encouraged to walk to school and arrive a bit early to enjoy free donuts, fruit, juice, and coffee provided by the PTO.

Book Fair: Twice a year, the PTO sponsors the Scholastic Book Fair held in the Dundee Elementary library. A portion of the proceeds from the book fair go back to our PTO and school.

Parent Teacher Conferences: This is a chance for you to talk with your student’s teacher and see how they’re progressing. The PTO provides meals for the teachers during the conferences.

Classroom parties: Dundee PTO provides funds for two class parties each year to celebrate Halloween and Valentine’s Day. Teachers work with family volunteers to plan various activities and snacks for the kids.

Halloween Parade: Held at 2pm on the same day as the Halloween class party, the parade (weather-permitting) goes from Dundee Elementary up 51st street to the Dundee Business District, east on Underwood to 50th, then back south on 50th to Chicago and returns to school. Neighbors, families, and friends are invited to line the parade route to see all the costumes.

Fall Festival: This free outdoor fall event features music, games, and other assorted fall fun. The Pancake Man is also in attendance and pancakes can be purchased for $5/plate.

Spring Festival: Dundee’s annual spring event is a free festival for students and their families with games and activities, student-led bands, an inflatable obstacle course, and snacks. Food trucks are also on site and have food available to purchase.

Staff Appreciation Week: We are grateful for our Dundee staff every day, but we really show our love during Staff Appreciation Week with lots of food, fun, and gifts.

Kindergarten Picnic: During the last week of school, kindergarteners and their families are invited to bring a lunch and celebrate the end of a great year.

6th Grade Picnic: Held the last week of school, Dundee’s 6th graders make their way to Elmwood Park for a day full of games and fun. Parents regularly join for a big kickball tournament.

6th Grade Recognition Ceremony: Put on by the 6th grade teachers, this ceremony in the gym marks the completion of the student’s time at Dundee. Students receive a certificate and watch a slide show of their time at school.

Last Day of School: It’s a Dundee tradition to clap out the 6th grade on their last day of school. The students all line the sidewalks around the school – from the blacktop up to the front doors – and the 6th graders walk through to screams, signs, and sometimes silly string. Parents and family members are invited to gather to watch and participate. Pro tip: 6th grade families might want to arrive about 3:30 to snag a good spot.
