Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

We all look forward to the coming school year! Together we can provide a nurturing environment where your child continues to develop language, academic skills, and positive peer relationships. There will be regular communication to discuss classroom activities and academic progress.  You are encouraged to participate in your child’s education, a home/school partnership contributes to your child’s success.

Here is a list of some things you could practice at home to help your child be successful in school:

  • Hold a book properly and turn one page at a time carefully.

  • Pick up and hold a pencil, crayon, and marker correctly for writing.

  • Write his/her first and last name.

  • Trace a straight line, a zig zag line, and a circle – then make their own.

  • Pick up and hold scissors correctly for cutting.

  • Cut on a straight line, a zig zag line, and a circle.

  • Use a glue stick properly and be able to twist it back down and put the lid on independently.

  • Open and close a zipper seal bag independently.

  • Stay attentively on task for 15 minutes in a seated position in a chair.

  • If you plan to send your child with a cold lunch, please make sure they are able to open (and close if necessary) each package independently.

We are sure that there are still questions that you may have about your child’s kindergarten year.  Below are some answers to commonly asked questions.

  •  Free breakfast is served daily if your child would like to eat at school.
  • School begins at 8:50 a.m. and dismisses at 4:05 p.m. Upon their arrival, the children will line up outside on the south side of the building.  They may begin lining up at 8:35 and will all walk in as a class together.  The playground is closed before school.  Teachers will walk their students out the south door at the end of the day.  It is necessary to inform us of who will be picking up your child at dismissal.  Changes in dismissal need to be communicated prior to 3:30 p.m.

  • full-sized backpack identified with your child’s name is a required school item. Parents should check the backpack daily for correspondence.  Backpacks should come empty each day other than school correspondence.

  • Please write your child’s name on any outerwear: jackets, hats, coats, gloves, etc.

  • Birthdays are celebrated in the classroom. Please do not send any birthday treats with your child, any birthday treats sent will be returned home.

Below is a list of classroom supplies that your child will need. Please only write your child’s name on the supply if indicated.

  • Large boxes of tissues, a multi-pack would be appreciated

  • Disinfecting wipes (ex. Clorox, Lysol), a multi-pack would be appreciated

  • Snack items – we will have snack each afternoon and donations of store bought, single serving size, individually prepackaged snacks to be distributed to all students in the class would be greatly appreciated. If you send 1 class set of snack each month we would have enough for every child every day. (granola bars, fruit snacks, cereal bars, cheese & cracker packs, fruit roll ups, gold fish, fresh fruit, fruit pouches, cheese sticks, etc.)

  • If you are able to donate extra items from the list above it would be greatly appreciated. There is no need to send items that are not included in the list.

  • If other supplies are needed throughout the year, we will send a note home.

  • A schedule will be sent home with your child. It is important that your child wear socks and gym shoes for P.E. class in order to participate.

  • Students should not bring toys or trinkets to school. Accessories and jewelry should be kept to a minimum as they can be a distraction and get lost easily.

  • Any parents who are interested in volunteering in the classrooms or attending field trips will need to complete a volunteer application. More information about this will be coming at the beginning of the year.

Thank you in advance for your support.  It’s going to be a great year and we look forward to working with your child!  If you have any further inquiries please contact Dundee School (531)299-1340.
